TAMUC Department of Physics and Astronomy to Host Summer REU
The A&M-Commerce Department of Physics and Astronomy is the recipient of a National Science Foundation grant intended to fund a summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) for community college students interested in physics and astronomy.
The 10-week REU program—which runs from June 6 through August 12—will host six students from community colleges in the mid-south region near Northeast Texas, which borders the neighboring states of Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.
The grant will provide each participant with a $6,000 stipend, housing and travel support to and from Commerce, as well as an observing run at McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis, Texas.
Selected participants will work directly with a faculty mentor on a collaborative research project matching the student's specific interests. Additionally, students will attend several social events and field trips to research and industrial institutions in North and East Texas.
