The Sam Rayburn Speaker Series Continues with “The Struggle is Real”
The Texas A&M University-Commerce Sam Rayburn Speaker Series continues with Ms. Laura Jackson, a survivor of over 25 years of abuse, addiction and trauma, which began when she was only five years old. By 16, she'd had a child of her own, had begun smoking and later using drugs and alcohol. In spite of this early beginning, she learned the lessons of forgiveness and of letting go.
Today, Jackson is a widow, a mother of four and grandmother of 10. She is an author, caregiver, substitute teacher and bus owner and entrepreneur. She has no problem donning different hats as she navigates community outreach and service within her church. She has embraced the calling for sharing her story.
Jackson shares her words of recovery as the second speaker of the Speaker Series tonight, Sept. 22, at 7 p.m. in Ferguson Auditorium. Admission is free.
This event is sponsored by the Department of Psychology, Counseling & Special Education, the Office of the President, Athletics and Greek Life.
