Trio Student Support Services Receives Grant from Federal Department of Education
The U.S. Department of Education has selected Texas A&M University-Commerce to receive a grant under the Student Support Services (SSS) Program, which will provide the Trio SSS office with $481,656 in funding each year for five years.
“I would like to thank Ms. Veronica Reed and her staff for their leadership in providing quality student support services and for preparing and receiving grant proposals that support our university's commitment to our underserved students,” Vice President of Student Access and Success Dr. Mary Hendrix said. “This funding will provide the support services necessary to assist many deserving students achieve their dream of degree attainment.”
The Trio SSS program provides low-income, first-generation college students, or students with disabilities with academic tutoring, assistance in postsecondary course selection, information about financial aid opportunities and assistance in completing financial aid applications, counseling services designed to improve financial and economic literacy and activities to assist participants in applying for admission and financial assistance in graduate or professional programs.
