The East Texas A&M University College of Business is proud to celebrate another remarkable achievement within its Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership program. Keshondra Porchia, a wife, mother of two and a dedicated graduate student, has been accepted into the prestigious Doctorate in Healthcare Administration program at Oklahoma State University (OSU).
Her acceptance marks East Texas A&M's second consecutive success in having students admitted into this highly sought-after program, a testament to the excellence of the university's healthcare leadership program and its commitment to developing future industry leaders.
Porchia's journey at ETAMU began in 2022 when she enrolled to pursue a bachelor's degree in General Studies, graduating in the fall of 2023. Inspired by East Texas A&M's strong academic reputation, diverse program offerings and inclusive environment, she was drawn to the university for its ability to foster both academic and personal growth.
“East Texas A&M University's focus on creating a welcoming and inclusive learning environment aligned perfectly with my objectives,” Porchia shared.
After completing her undergraduate degree, Porchia chose to further her studies in the Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership program, where she is currently a student. She explains that her motivation to specialize in healthcare leadership stemmed from a desire to make a meaningful impact.
“I chose to major in healthcare leadership to make a difference in people's lives,” Porchia said. “Good leadership is essential in the healthcare field, especially when addressing challenges like resource allocation, patient care quality, and adopting new technologies.”
Porchia credits the College of Business with preparing her for the complexities of healthcare administration. Drawn to the college's emphasis on hands-on learning, innovation and leadership, she noted the unique advantage of learning from faculty with real-world business experience. Among the professors who made a lasting impact on her academic journey, Dr. Greg Lubiani stands out.
“I remember the engaging lectures in which Dr. Lubiani integrated real-world business issues, fostering dynamic conversations and analytical thinking,” Porchia reflected. “His ability to connect theory with practice made a significant difference in shaping my understanding of the healthcare industry.”
Reflecting on her academic journey, she fondly recalls memorable experiences within the College of Business, such as dynamic lectures and group projects that fostered collaboration and critical thinking.
“My time at the College of Business was filled with engaging lectures and collaboration with classmates, creating a supportive network that helped me grow both academically and personally,” she shared.
As she sets to embark on her doctorate at OSU, Porchia also acknowledges the important role her family plays in motivating her. Married and with two young boys, she describes her children as her inspiration, driving her to achieve her goals and set an example of perseverance and lifelong learning.
“My time in higher education isn’t just about my growth; it’s a reflection of my dedication to their future success,” Porchia said.
Her advice to prospective students considering ETAMU's College of Business reflects her positive experience: “Engage with the professors and take advantage of networking events, internships, and courses. These opportunities are essential for gaining industry connections and real-world experience.”
The East Texas A&M Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership program continues to establish itself as a leader in shaping future healthcare administrators and professionals, with Keshondra's achievement underscoring the program’s impact and reputation.
