University Honors 2014 Distinguished Alumni and Gold Blazer Recipients
The Alumni Association of Texas A&M University-Commerce honored eight new Distinguished Alumni and four new Gold Blazers at their annual Alumni Awards Gala on Saturday, May 3, 2014.
The Alumni Awards Gala, held at the university's Sam Rayburn Student Center, welcomed two hundred and fifty guests to a black and white themed evening accompanied by a reception and dinner in recognition of the honorees.
“This event gives us the opportunity to showcase the caliber of alumni we have in the world that are representing our university,” said Derryle Peace, director of Alumni Relations.
Honorees receiving the Distinguished Alumni Award are recognized for having achieved outstanding success in their chosen professions. The 2014 Distinguished Alumni recipients include H. Gordon Allen of Texarkana, The Honorable Barbara Bass of Tyler, Will Cureton of Dallas, Dr. Robert R. Galvan of Marshall, Patricia A. Krebs of New Orleans, Dr. Joe D. May of Dallas, Dr. John F. Moss of Pecan Gap, and Steve Sullivan of Dallas.
Every year the Gold Blazer Award is presented to alumni who have provided outstanding service to the alumni association and the university. This year's recipients include Dr. James B. Cowley of Brashear, Marion A. Houff of Texarkana, Dr. Greg Hulsey of Commerce, and W. Ben King of Bedford.
“We honored some truly extraordinary individuals,” said Dr. Dan R. Jones, president of A&M-Commerce. “They came to our university as young men and women and used the education they received here to achieve remarkable success. More than that, they have made a positive difference in the lives of others. “
