World Premiere of Michael Daugherty Composition
On March 9, the Wind Ensemble at Texas A&M University-Commerce will be premiering a brand new composition entitled “Of War and Peace,” by multi-Grammy Award-winning composer, Michael Daugherty, under the direction of Mr. Phillip Clements. The work was commissioned by a consortium led by the Department of Music’s Zeta Kappa chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi and the Epsilon Beta chapter of Tau Beta Sigma.
Daugherty’s music has been performed at prestigious venues around the world, and according to the League of American Orchestras, he is one of the 10 most-performed living American composers.
“Of War and Peace is my sonic response to the never ending tragedy of war and the hope for peace,” said Daugherty. “The composition is in two movements, performed without pause. The music I have composed for the first movement, entitled “War,” is turbulent, relentless and seductive. The music I have composed for the second movement, entitled “Peace,” is calm, longing and reflective.”
The concert will take place in Finney Concert Hall on the A&M-Commerce campus at 7:30 p.m. and is presented free of charge, but tickets are required and can be acquired online.
