A Conversation with Amanda

What is your current occupation?

I am an actor and voice actor.

How did you end up there?

Post-graduation was a very confusing time for me. I had various teaching jobs at the university level, but ultimately knew I shouldn’t give up on performing. I sought out classes in voice acting, and that led me towards my goal of voice acting for Anime!

How did A&M-Commerce prepare you for your current position?

Participating in the theater and performance environment prepared me for navigating the entertainment industry. It not only helped prepare me for the performance space, but it taught me about dealing with rejection and learning to persevere and move forward.

What do you like most about A&M-Commerce?

I love that A&M-Commerce is a university but in a small way. I don’t like big schools where you don’t know anyone, so the fact that A&M-Commerce had a small-town feel was definitely a plus for me!

What advice do you have for students?

The “real world” is not the easiest to navigate. Within any industry, you will have your ups and downs. But staying true to yourself is key; we all bloom at different times, so have patience and trust yourself.
