A Conversation With Anabel

What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce?

As a non-traditional scholar and life-long learner, A&M-Commerce paved the way for my own career as a school psychologist and behavior analyst. Not only did my education at A&M-Commerce prepare me for a career in school psychology, but it also prepared me for my doctoral studies. Many years later, faculty at A&M-Commerce continue to support and mentor students and provide high quality educational and training experiences for the next generation of school psychologists.

What draws you to your discipline?

I believe education is the path to an unlimited number of opportunities. Having experienced and having witnessed others experience educational barriers motivated me to explore ways to promote and advocate for access to education. The field of school psychology has allowed me to support the social, emotional, behavioral, and academic well-being of children through direct and indirect intervention and consultation. As a school psychologist, I enjoy collaborating with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to improve family and school systems, eliminate educational barriers, and ensure children thrive and reach their optimal potential.
