I chose an English major because of my love for reading, writing, and researching, but I have learned a lot more than I expected about the field as a whole and navigating life with skills I have learned which will push me on toward my career goals.

A Conversation with Ashlee

What do you like about working at the Writing Center?

I have really enjoyed working with the Writing Center these past two years; It has made me a better writer and communicator, and the friendships I have made with my peers here are important to me. It has influenced how I go about my own writing. I always tend to struggle with starting papers; working with students through the brainstorming process and making my own sessions helps me be able to talk through my expectations for an assignment or get ideas flowing for a project.

What has been your favorite course?

One of my favorite classes was last semester Problems of Adolescent Literature with Dr. Rowe. I got to use my writing and design skills to make a website based on YA book reviews; I hope to continue this project and expand the books I include and make it an interactive and public space for readers.

Why did you choose your major?

I chose an English major because of my love for reading, writing, and researching, but I have learned a lot more than I expected about the field as a whole and navigating life with skills I have learned which will push me on toward my career goals.
