A Conversation with Joe

What do you believe makes East Texas A&M a standout choice for students?

East Texas A&M is an exceptional choice for students seeking a high-quality education at a much lower cost than other comparable options. Our unique blend of urban and rural settings offers a diverse learning environment, ensuring students get the best of both worlds. Additionally, our tight-knit community fosters lasting connections and a supportive atmosphere, making it an ideal place for students to thrive.

What is one service or resource that you feel is underutilized on campus?

The Rayburn Student Center is a great example of a tangible benefit students can take advantage of on campus. Although thousands of students enter our building each week, many do not fully take advantage of the many services we provide for free to students and student organizations. For example, we have many reservable spaces that groups can use to put on events and others that can be used by anyone without a reservation. Additionally, our department has an open-door policy, and we are always happy to hear your suggestions and feedback so that we can better serve all students.

Why is it important for students to get involved on campus?

As an alum of ETAMU, I can say from personal experience that my involvement during my time as a student had a profound impact on my personal development, and I would strongly encourage all students to look for ways to be involved that suit their wants and needs. Being involved in my student organization allowed me to develop my social and leadership skills and even allowed me to travel and meet similar students from around the country. Additionally, and most importantly to me, this all made my college experience much more enjoyable, gave me a support system when I needed it most and connected me with my closest friends.
