Joshua Ray is a United States Marine Corps veteran and retired police officer. As sheriff-elect of Guadalupe County in Texas, Ray continues to serve and protect others. When not working, you might find him spending time with his family or attending his local church. He also enjoys CrossFit training, reading and watching movies with his wife.

What would you tell a student who is considering A&M-Commerce?
No program in the nation compares to the competency-based criminal justice program at A&M-Commerce in terms of cost, accessibility, functionality and recognition of experienced student practitioners in the field.
How did your degree program prepare you for your current career?
I was already proficient in my field when I decided to return to school and finish my degree at A&M-Commerce. My studies helped me see different perspectives, study concepts based on scientific principles and taught me how to make better academic arguments.
Which professor or staff member positively influenced you during your time as a student at A&M-Commerce?
Jimmy Womack was one of my best instructors who taught me the material and mentored me as a future leader in our profession. He was accessible both online and by telephone. Now that I have graduated, I still consider Jimmy a friend and resource. Jimmy keenly understands the law enforcement profession, its culture, and the functional role and perception of academia in the profession.
What is an important life lesson you learned as a student at A&M-Commerce?
My academic experience helped strengthen my time management skills, reading, writing and research abilities.
