A Conversation with Lauren

What do you like most about teaching at East Texas A&M?

I appreciate the opportunity to work alongside colleagues who are passionate about their fields, inspiring me to continue growing as an educator. Additionally, I value the university’s commitment to supporting academic and personal development, which aligns closely with my teaching philosophy. Being part of a community prioritizing student success and lifelong learning makes teaching here rewarding.

What advice would you give a prospective or current student about success in the classroom?

Make attending class regularly a priority—it's one of the simplest yet most effective ways to stay engaged and on track. Come prepared, ask questions and participate actively, as these habits deepen your understanding and show your commitment to learning. Beyond the classroom, manage your time wisely and set clear goals for your academic and personal growth. Take advantage of the resources available, like tutoring, study groups or office hours, to ensure you're supported every step of the way. Most importantly, balance your hard work with self-care—maintaining your physical and mental health is essential for long-term success. Remember, the effort you put into your education now will pay dividends in opportunities and personal fulfillment down the road.

What do you enjoy in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy staying active and finding balance in life. Running and practicing yoga are two of my favorite ways to maintain my physical and mental wellness. I also love spending quality time with my family, whether it's sharing a meal, having meaningful conversations or just relaxing together. And, of course, I can't forget about my cat, who always adds a touch of joy and companionship to my day. These activities help me recharge and stay grounded, allowing me to bring my best self to both my personal life and my work.
