Marcia Henderson, a believer in the power of faith over fear, made a significant return to college after a two-decade absence from higher education in the late 1990s. Overcoming trepidation, she seized the opportunity and now recognizes it as one of the best decisions of her life. “Fear,” she reflects, “almost hindered my success.” Yet, Henderson’s story underscores a broader truth: everyone has a unique journey, but simple faith can be a game-changer. “It’s never too late to begin again,” she affirms.
And to prospective college students, she offers this advice: Embrace your journey, for it’s never too late to pursue your dreams.
A Conversation with Marcia
What would you tell a student who is considering A&M-Commerce?
Allow me to help take the guesswork out of your decision by welcoming you to the Lion family! As a two-time alum working on my doctorate, I can say A&M-Commerce is a unique experience. You will gain a quality education and add unique individuals to your life who will become part of your extended family.
What do you like most about your career?
Every student I work with is unique. Working with students from varied backgrounds keeps me on my toes in a good way! It gives me an amazing opportunity to embrace unique cultures while becoming knowledgeable about walks of life that may be a bit different than mine.
How do you help students at A&M-Commerce?
I advise students about classes they should take to complete their major. As an academic advisor, students will meet me to discuss classes needed to complete their major efficiently and effectively. When students come into my office, we discuss the remaining hours they need to graduate and the courses required for their major. Together, we produce a schedule that is in their best interest.
