A Conversation with Michael
What would you tell a student who is thinking about attending A&M-Commerce? What sets A&M-Commerce apart from other universities?
A&M-Commerce provided me with the opportunity to attend college as a full-time student while balancing my responsibilities at work and at home. The professors provided coursework that was challenging but not unrealistic and guided me through the learning process. All coursework was provided online without having to search for books or worksheets. The program is extremely affordable, especially compared to other universities. The faculty and staff at A&M-Commerce go out of their way to make you feel a part of the university and are always available to assist and provide guidance. The coursework is self-paced which allowed me to progress as my schedule allowed and take advantage of the knowledge and experience gained through my policing career. My only regret about attending A&M-Commerce is that I did not start my educational journey sooner. I highly recommend current peace officers and those seeking a career in law enforcement to attain their degree through A&M-Commerce.
How is your degree program preparing you for a career once you graduate from A&M-Commerce?
After graduation, I will have the ability to promote within my agency and continue to lead within a larger span of control. This degree program will also afford me the ability to take my education and experience to another agency in a command-level position. Truthfully, I have already begun applying what I have learned from A&M-Commerce in my current position and have been able to produce a better work product.
Which professor or staff member has positively influenced you during your time as a student at A&M-Commerce? What will you remember about this professor or staff member?
Professor Jimmie Womack was a fantastic professor that can combine real-world experiences as a retired Police Chief with academia. His classes challenged students while forcing them to think outside the box to find solutions. He was extremely supportive and provided feedback that encouraged and enhanced his students.
What is an important life lesson you have learned as a student at A&M-Commerce?
Do not procrastinate. If something needs to be done, do it right the first time.
