A Conversation with Dr. Mitchell
What would you tell a student who is considering A&M-Commerce?
A&M-Commerce offers excellent programs in various content areas at an affordable cost. You will feel comfortable on our relatively small campus in Commerce. Specifically, health and human performance students have small class sizes, and professors get to know their students. There are opportunities for you to be involved in the department through research, study abroad, service-learning projects and more.
What do you like most about your career?
I enjoy helping students reach their career goals. In some cases, this is done by advising and helping them decide on the major that is best for them. In other cases, it is in helping them find the best graduate program to continue their education in a specialized area once they complete their degree with us. I love reconnecting with our alumni to hear how their time as students in our department impacted their careers.
How do you help students at A&M-Commerce?
I coordinate our athletic training program, which allows students to work with our athletic training staff and athletic teams on campus as they gain the skills to become athletic trainers. I help students decide on the appropriate major and minor to help them succeed in a graduate athletic training program if they want to pursue a career as athletic trainers. I am also the coordinator for the Department of Health and Human Performance graduate programs. I assist students with the admissions process and throughout their graduate degree.
