Tre Johnson

Assistant Athletic Director for Development

A native of New Orleans, Tre’ Johnson received both of his degrees from Southeastern. He loves to cook and cheer on his Saints during football season. Johnson resides in Greenville with his wife, Dr. Tyron'E Hawkins.

A&M-Commerce named Tre' Johnson the assistant athletics director for development in April 2024. Johnson moved to the athletics department after serving as the director of philanthropy at A&M-Commerce in the Office of Philanthropy and Engagement over the past year.  He was the frontline fundraiser for all major gifts to the university.

A Conversation with Tre Johnson

How do you help students?

In my role, I am tasked with leading and coordinating all fundraising activities for the athletic departments, especially major gifts, and annual gifts to the Lion Athletics Scholarship Fund. This allows our student-athletes to focus their efforts in the classroom and on the field of play instead of any financial hardships they may face.

What is something you enjoy about working at A&M-Commerce? Why?

I enjoy the family-like atmosphere and feeling like I've known colleagues for years when it is just my first time meeting them.

Why did you choose your career/what draws you to your discipline?

I am an advocate for affordable education and setting students up for success. The percentage of student-athletes who turn pro is extremely low and it is important that they have a pathway to a great education and fruitful career. I appreciate that my role provides support towards that educational pathway while also making sure they have what they need from the athletics side of things.
