Ted and Donna Lyon Center for Gamebird Research Highlighted in Premier Conservation Journal

The Ted and Donna Lyon Center for Gamebird Research at East Texas A&M University is featured in the Fall 2024 issue of the Quail Forever Journal. The feature, titled “A Commitment to Quail,” dives into the center's innovative work in quail conservation, sustainability and habitat restoration.

The center is funded through a generous $1 million gift from Ted and Donna Lyon. The article highlights the center’s commitment to reversing quail population declines across Texas and beyond. Led by Associate Professor Kelly Reyna, the center’s research targets critical factors in quail population sustainability, including chick production and the impacts of climate and land management practices.

A key component of the center is its Quail Research Laboratory, where researchers replicate field conditions to study and address challenges like drought and pesticide use during nesting season. The facility also includes extensive field research stations across Texas, California, Kansas and Montana, tracking large-scale population patterns and providing essential data for landowners and conservationists.

With a charge to secure sustainable gamebird populations, the Ted and Donna Lyon Center for Gamebird Research is at the forefront of gamebird conservation efforts.

Quail Forever’s mission is to conserve quail, pheasants and other wildlife through habitat improvements, public access, education and conservation advocacy. The membership-based journal's Fall 2024 issue arrived in mailboxes in August.
